Prepare for Culture Shock!

The purpose of this blog is to explore my adventures as a student studying abroad. I will be continuing my English studies as I travel to Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. As a young woman of 20 from a small town in West Virginia, I will be forced to adjust quickly to an entirely new environment. Not only will I be in a completely different country with its own unique history, but the sheer number of residents in the area is going to be a huge difference. Here are a couple quick fact comparisons between areas:

# of Students
Wesleyan: 1,300 Grad + Undergrad
Queen's: 25,000 Grad + Postgrad

Population
Buckhannon, WV, 26201:
9,079 Urban population
10,169 Rural population
Belfast, NI:
276,459 City proper
800,000 Belfast Regional Area

That said, four and a half months' worth of immersion in Irish culture is certainly worth documenting. I plan to post pictures and videos of some daily activities, outings, or other experiences with short journal entries.

Here's what I know so far:
Leaving date: aiming for January 25
Flight plan: in progress
Housing: standard single in Mount Charles
MOC40 201
40 Mount Charles, Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT7 1NZ
Semester dates:
Jan 28 - Housing opens
Jan 29 & 30 - International Student Orientation
April 6 to 24 - Easter Vacation
May 21 to June 6 - Finals

Here is a map showing the location of Mount Charles. The main site for Queen's is just a couple blocks south. (Click and drag the map to explore)
