Good Times With Friends

Belfast is wonderful. So are the people. I would not be having half as much fun if it weren't for such amazing friends. I love knowing so many people from different countries, and finding that even people who have little in common culturally can get along surprisingly well. The variety of accents is amazing! I constantly feel that I speak very plainly, but some people find my American accent refreshing and pleasing to the ear. To me I just sound flat and boring.

At any rate, I have been enjoying going out for a good time. One night, February the 26th, I took some friends to this place called the Ye Olde Eglantine Inn, or the Egg, where my housemate Eoghan works as a bartender. The bar is between Mount Charles and the other residence halls along the same road, and I had passed by it several times but had yet to go inside. The music was great, although a little loud, and knowing one of the bartenders proved to be extremely handy--we didn't have to wait long for our drinks; Eoghan came to us first. =D

A couple days later, Friday the 27th, there was a pirate party in Grant House (residence for international students). Layla, Torsten, Arne and I pre-drank after dinner by watching Pirates of the Caribbean, taking a drink every time someone said 'pirate.' Herve rented a Jack Sparrow costume and wore a full complement of eyeliner to go with it. I painted his nails a dark crimson while Layla put makeup on Torsten's eyelids to give him an extra pair of eyes, the way the savages painted Captain Jack in one of the later Pirates movies.

The party was a good time--seeing everyone's costumes was the best part. Some people got really into it! The rave broke up when someone set off the fire alarm. Pirates and wenches poured out into the street around 1 or 2 in the morning... it was a sight to see!

Here are some pictures from the Egg:

Regrettably, I don't have many pictures from the pirate party. If I find some from other people, I might steal a couple and post them directly here.
