A Day of Pandering

Didn’t get much done today. Got up around 9:30 when I was woken up by some noisy people. Also irritated by an itchy throat. Hope I’m not catching anything, eugh.

New neighbor moved in, Layla from Toronto, Canada. Her Dad is here helping her move all her stuff in, lucky girl. She hasn’t met Eoghan, the third mate on our floor, yet. She and I made plans for dinner tonight. There’s a free welcome dinner for international students, hosted at Fisherwick Presbyterian Church ten minutes down the road, at 7:30. Does everyone here eat so late?

Ate a quick lunch with Dawson before he left for Spain. He says I’m free to eat any of his food while he’s gone.

I walked down to Elms Village to try and get my wireless up and running, to no avail. Walked back to campus, still no joy even after the admin restarted our house’s wireless hub. Eoghan and Layla can’t get connected up either.

Took a quick, glorious nap, and got some papers in order for the following days. Layla’s Mac magically connected to the internet… I’m jealous. It’s amazing how cut off you can feel without internet for just a day or so. I guess not having a phone makes it worse too. I really need to go out and grab one; everyone keeps asking for my number. Argh.

The dinner was tasty, and much appreciated by all as it seems. I met a few more people and had a good time talking over dinner; hopefully I can get together with them sometime. Tonight I have other plans.

Layla was gracious enough to let me borrow her phone to give Andrew a call. He’s one of the guys I met at Lavery’s. Unlike the Germans I met, Andrew is from Ireland and he won’t be leaving anytime soon. He invited me to a movie, Valkyrie, which I had been wanting to see. John (again… Lavery’s) and a friend of his came with us too. Didn’t take long to walk there from Mount Charles. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the mixed reviews, but in my point of view it was definitely worth seeing.

Something to note—here they put sugar on their popcorn. You have to specifically ask for salty corn if that’s what you want. Hehe, Andrew got a huge bucket of sugared corn he barely made a dent in! Sad to see it go to waste.

By the time I got back to my place, it was about midnight, and I was not the least bit tired. Popped a sleeping pill and now I’m about ready to drift off. Tomorrow morning, registration and stuff starts. Hopefully my crummy little alarm clock will wake me up. Eoghan said he would knock on my door to try and help get me up too. =)
