So I forgot to mention on one of my earlier posts that I had a bit of an accident. A few days ago I had dinner with some friends in MC 26. We were celebrating because two girls were moving there from Elms. That particular building is handicapped-accessible, with ramps and special doors that open with the push of a button. There were two of these doors in the kitchen, and I didn't think much about them until my fingers got caught in the doorjamb.
I pushed the button to open the door going out to the back, intending to go out and walk around for a bit, but I paused for just a moment. The door started to close and there was a sharp pain in my right hand; I let out a yelp, and luckily my brain was quick enough to put 2 and 2 together. DANGER! DANGER! FINGERS + AUTOMATIC DOOR = OUCH! My wonderful brain set my right foot on a collision course with the door, forcing it back open to free my fingers. I took a look, and the damage wasn't so bad. My middle finger got the worst of it--there was a big dent, already beginning to bruise, between two of the knuckles. The skin was scraped off. My first finger looked similar, but not so severe. The other fingers escaped the debacle unharmed.
Lots of faces peered over me in concern, and I was told to put my damaged fingers under the cold faucet. Melissa grabbed a pack of frozen vegetables which I used as a cold compress. My fingers swelled up real bad anyway.
I must have had quite a shock, because the pain didn't quite register until the cold seeped its way through the skin to the burning heat of the swelling. I sat down quickly, my hands shaking, and drank some coffee that Daniela made. All at once my eyes started welling up, even though I willed them not to, and I stared at the ceiling until it passed. Arne took me home and we watched a movie to help distract me.
At any rate, that was several days ago. Although my fingers are doing much better, they are still extremely stiff and sore. I'm just lucky they're still attached to my hand. x___X
